Mōhala: “To Bloom Forth”

The First Newsletter of Nā Mamo o Hawaiʻi

June 1996

Sometimes the best history is that which tells itself, which is why we were thrilled to find the first issue of Mōhala, the newsletter of Nā Mamo o Hawaiʻi, the legendary grassroots group that made an important contribution to movement-building in Hawaiʻi in the early 1990s, hiding in the Hawaiian and Pacific Collections archive at the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa Hamilton Library.

On its pages, below, founding members of NMOH explain its origins, describe its mission, and share some personal stories too.

Mahalo palena ʻole and gratitude beyond measure to NMOH for creating a vision for the better world still being pursued today.
